Louisville Fire News Release

Louisville Fire lineman Andrew Tippins set a Fire record for sacks in a game with 3.5 last Saturday against Manchester. Now Tippins has sacked ADT Defensive Player of the Week honors from the af2 office for his efforts against Manchester on Saturday. Tippins recorded 4.5 tackles (4U 1A), 3.5 sacks, an interception, a blocked kick and a forced fumble. His 3.5 sack performance ties San Diego's Asi Faoa for the best single game total this season.

Tippins, has only been with the Fire for six games this season due to school commitments, has recorded 4.5 sacks, five forced fumbles and five tackles for loss this season. Tippins' performance on Saturday was the best of his professional career.

"Tippins has excelled for us on the line in the short time he has been here," said Fire head coach Tommy Johnson. "He was with us for a short time last season and we knew he had this type of potential. He has been a great addition because of his play on the field and his character off the field."

This is the fourth weekly award for a Fire player this season, Tony Stallings was named US Army Ironman of the Game in Week 2, Demetrius Forney was also selected as US Army Ironman in Week 5, Cesare Manning was named Offensive Player of the Week in Week 13. The four weekly awards in a season is a franchise high.

Macon offensive specialist Chris Johnson and Memphis wide receiver/defensive back Terrell Adams were named the Offensive Player and U.S. Army Ironman of the Week, respectively, for Week 17 of the 2005 season.

The Fire will be going for victory number 11 this Saturday against Quad City at 7:30 P.M. in Freedom Hall. This will be the last regular season game of 2005 season. The Fire will be giving away Fire hats and tickets can be purchased by visiting Ticketmaster.com or calling (502)368-0009.
