LAST NIGHT: The Dragons took the series opener, 4-1. Fort Wayne's only run came in the seventh on a solo homer by right fielder Agustin Ruiz. Starting pitcher Carlos Guarate, at the age of 20, became the youngest pitcher in the league this season. He went 5 innings, holding Dayton to 2 runs.

260 TO TOKYO: A pair of former Fort Wayne players are set to compete in the Olympics. Left-handed pitcher Óliver Pérez, who pitched for the Wizards in 2001, is representing Mexico, while Diego Goris, a TinCaps infielder in 2013, is playing for the Dominican Republic. (Dayton Dragons pitcher Daniel Duarte is away from their club with Team Mexico as well.) "Group Stage" play begins July 28... Two Northeast Indiana natives are also in the Olympics: Rachel Dincoff (discus; USA) and Andrea Filler (softball; Italy).

PATIENT APPROACH: In the HAC, the TinCaps are 2nd to only Cedar Rapids in free passes (walks and hit by pitches), averaging about 5 per game. Fort Wayne is walking in 14% of its plate appearances. The rest of the league has walked at a 10% rate. For further context, the Yankees lead MLB in BB% at 10.8%. The Padres rank 3rd (10.2%).
