BALZER DIALED IN: Last Saturday against Lake County, Fort Wayne right-hander Bryan Balzer tossed 5 scoreless innings, giving up one hit in his second start at Parkview Field. Balzer collected his first High-A win and has allowed just one run over his last 13 innings (0.69 ERA), with a .137 BAA. The righty made the largest leap among Padres prospects in MLB.com's top 30 following Thursday's shuffle. The 21-year-old now ranks as San Diego's No. 7 prospect, up from No. 28.

MIRALLES MAGIC: TinCap righty Maikel Miralles threw 5 no-hit innings on Friday night in his 12th start of the season. It was the fourth appearance for Miralles of 5 frames in 2026, with the last one coming on July 12 at LMCU Ballpark against West Michigan. Friday night was the right-hander's first start since June 18 at Parkview Field, in the first game of a doubleheader against South Bend, where he also tossed 5 scoreless innings. Miralles' best start of the season was also his first on April 7, tying a franchise record for a home opener with a career-high 9 strikeouts against Lansing.

SILENCING STABLE: Fort Wayne relievers Nick Falter and Will Varmette paired up to complete Friday night's victory on the hill. Falter collected his second win with the 'Caps since being promoted on June 23, allowing one hit and punching out three in two innings. The 23-year-old has not given up a run in back-to-back outings and in 3 of his last 4 appearances, spanning across 6 1/3 innings. Varmette sealed the deal by collecting the final six outs and securing his third save of the campaign. The righty also has back-to-back scoreless appearances under his belt, having not allowed a run in 10 of his last 13 outings. Varmette is second on the team in appearances this season with 32.

CANTWELL COMING THROUGH: Fort Wayne first baseman Luke Cantwell is on a team-leading seven-game hit streak following his sixth-inning single on Friday. The 2025 20th-round pick is 10-for-24 (.417) across the stretch, including his fourth homer with the 'Caps this season last Saturday against Lake County. The former Pitt Panther has six multi-hit showings in 17 games since joining the club on June 23. The Warrington, PA native made his professional debut with Fort Wayne on Sept. 2 last season, being the second 2025 draft selection of the Padres to join the 'Caps directly from draft camp.

SWEET-SWINGING ALEX MCCOY: TinCaps slugger Alex McCoy broke Friday's scoreless tie in the 6th inning with his Midwest League-leading 26th double of the campaign, scoring Justin DeCriscio. McCoy blasted his 13th home run of the campaign in the first inning on Tuesday night, his first round tripper since June 21 at Parkview Field against South Bend. Along with leading the Midwest League in doubles, the No. 19 Padres prospect is 3rd in extra-base hits (40), total bases (159), and hits (92). He is just one of four players with over 90 hits this season. He is also the active team leader in homers, RBI (50), multi-hit games (25), and multi-RBI games (13) in 90 games this season. McCoy, the 24-year-old, has reached base in 14 of his last 15 games, with a knock in 12 of 15.

WATERING THE WELL: TinCap outfielder Kasen Wells delivered his fourth RBI single of the series Friday night, giving him his second multi-hit game of the set. With his 21st multi-hit game this season, Wells is 5-for-14 this week and drove in a crucial insurance run in the 10th frame in Wednesday night's win. His fifth multi-RBI game this season, it is his first since July 1 at Parkview Field against these Loons. Two nights later, Wells played hero on July 4 against Great Lakes, delivering a walk-off base hit to right field in the 14th inning to put a bow on the 4-hour, 48-minute marathon contest.
