Timely News, Notes And Tidbits About The Arena Football League

May 22, 2005 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I) News Release

- BON JOVI & ELWAY TO GUEST STAR ON "LAS VEGAS": The season finale of NBC's hit show Las Vegas airs Monday night, May 23, at 9 p.m. ET and co-stars AFL co-owners Jon Bon Jovi (Philadelphia) and John Elway (Colorado).

In the episode, the pair clash over their teams, as AFL owners gather in Las Vegas to discuss plans for ArenaBowl XIX.

This is the second go around for Bon Jovi and Elway with the hit show. The duo co-starred with three members of the Las Vegas cast in the mini-movie "Rumble in the Montecito," which continues to promote the AFL's first-neutral site championship game -- ArenaBowl XIX Las Vegas to be played on June 12.

- PLAYERS PROFILED IN NATIONAL PUBLICATIONS: AFL players were featured in two national sports magazines this week. Sports Illustrated examined the second jobs of AFL players and the Sporting News profiled New York Dragons quarterback Aaron Garcia.

Colorado Crush OL/DL Hugh Hunter, who is co-owner of his own real estate firm with Nashville Kats OL/DL James Baron, told S.I., "Football has been good for me businesswise. It's taught me discipline."

Describing an impromptu play that resulted in a game-winning TD pass by Garcia, the Sporting News said, "Such creativity is all but impossible in the complex offenses of the NFL. But in the Arena Football League, in which Garcia arguably is the best quarterback of all time, it can be done."

- ARE YOU A MUSIC FAN?: World-renown musical acts have been lined up to play ArenaBowl XIX Las Vegas. At Saturday night's ArenaBash, fans will see Grammy Award-winning band Maroon 5, as well as John Legend, Gavin DeGraw and Low Millions. At the championship game on Sunday, fans will be entertained by Bryan Adams at halftime and another high-profile soon-to-be-announced band postgame. Watch for even more musical acts to be added soon.
