
Timbers Open MLS Is Back Tournament with 2-1 Win over LA Galaxy

ORLANDO, Fla. - Returning to action for the first time since March 8, the Portland Timbers opened Group F play in the MLS is Back Tournament, tallying a pair of second-half goals in a seven-minute span to secure a 2-1 win against the LA Galaxy at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex on Monday night. After Steve Clark saved a first-half penalty kick, Jeremy Ebobisse opened the scoring in the second half and Sebastián Blanco recorded the game-winner in the 66th minute to help Portland secure the win.
MLS is Back Tournament Group F Standings
Following the win over the LA Galaxy, and the 3-3 draw between Los Angeles FC and the Houston Dynamo earlier in the night, the Timbers sit atop the Group F standings.

Timbers Firsts
Blanco and Ebobisse each tallied their first goals of the 2020 campaign in the match. Additionally, Blanco and Valeri registered their first assists of the season. Jaroslaw Niezgoda made his Timbers debut, entering the match as a second-half substitute. Marvin LorÃÂa and Eryk Williamson earned their first starts of the season, with LorÃÂa making his first appearance of the campaign.

POR - Jeremy Ebobisse (Sebastián Blanco, Diego Valeri), 59th minute: Valeri played a ball from the top of the box to Blanco, who made a darting diagonal run to the right post. Blanco collected the pass near the end line and slotted the ball to Ebobisse near the goal line for the finish from close range.
POR - Sebastián Blanco, 66th minute: After Ebobisse's initial shot from the edge of the box was blocked, Blanco pounced on the loose ball, dribbled around two defenders near the end line and converted from a tight angle at the right post.
LAG - Chicharito (Gordon Wild, Cristian Pavón), 88th minute: Wild received the ball at the end line and sent a short pass to Chicharito, who slotted a the ball into the back of net from the right edge of the six-yard box.
Notes:
Jeremy Ebobisse tallied his first goal of the 2020 season in the match and the 15th regular-season goal of his Timbers career.
Ebobisse has scored a goal in each of his three career matches against the Galaxy.
Sebastián Blanco recorded his first goal and assist of the 2020 season.
Blanco has scored 25 league goals for Portland, which is tied for 10th place on the all-time scoring list across all eras for the Timbers.
Blanco registered his 31st career assist for the Timbers. His 31 assists are tied for the second-most career assists in MLS play for Portland and rank as the fifth-most in all eras of the club.

Steve Clark stopped a penalty kick for the second time in his Timbers career. Clark's two penalty kick saves are the same amount as all other Timbers goalkeepers combined in MLS play.
Clark has saved six penalty kicks in MLS play since his debut in the league in 2014, which is tied for the fourth-most among MLS goalkeepers in that span.
