The Red Bulls and Crew SC sit atop Group E at three points (1-0-0) and the Eastern Conference with seven points (2-0-1). A win for either team will secure a top-2 spot in Group E to advance to the 16-team knockout round of the MLS is Back Tournament.

The 82 meetings are the third most against the Red Bulls, while New York has faced New England 87 times and D.C. United 95 times. In regular-season play, New York owns the advantage over Columbus, 30-29-12.
Head Coach Chris Armas began his career as the manager of the Red Bulls on July 8, 2018 and has led his team to a tie for the fourth-most points in MLS regular-season play since with 94. Seattle (105), LAFC (102) and Atlanta (96) are ahead of New York by a small margin during that span, while D.C. United (94) is tied and NYCFC (89) and Philadelphia (88) follow closely behind. The Red Bulls have tallied an 11-5-2 mark against those six clubs that have played at a high level during Armas' tenure.
