Tiguinho Named Player of the Week

(Independence, MO) Comets forward Tiguinho has been named Major Indoor Soccer League Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. Tiguinho scored two goals and dished out five assists in a 33-12 Comets win over Syracuse Wednesday night at the Independence Events Center.

Tiguinho, a 26-year-old from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, has now scored 21 points in nine games after joining the Comets in December. He scored 18 points in 15 regular season and playoff games last year for the Comets.

The Comets set numerous 2011-12 MISL records in the win against Syracuse, including most points scored, largest combined point total and largest margin of victory. The 33 points scored was also a Missouri Comets franchise record and the second-most points scored by a professional indoor soccer team in the metro, trailing only a 34-point performance by the Kansas City Attack.

In addition to Tiguinho's nine points, three different players scored at least three goals, also a first in Missouri Comets franchise history.

The Comets next take the field Friday, February 10 at 7:35 p.m., hosting the Baltimore Blast at the Independence Events Center in the 2nd Annual Pink Game. Comets players will be wearing pink jerseys to in honor of the Ali Kemp Educational Foundation. The jerseys will be auctioned off immediately following the game with a portion of the proceeds benefitting this important cause.
