Tigers Get Win on Fourth of July over Vermont

Norwich, CT - Ryan Kreidler went 2-for-2 with three runs scored, and the Connecticut Tigers (8-11) defeated the Vermont Lake Monsters (8-12) by a score of 6-4.

Vermont got on the board in the first inning after an RBI single by Jordan Diaz. Diaz finished the game 3-for-5 with two RBIs.

The Tigers answered in the bottom of the frame with a RBI fielder's choice by Jake Holton to tie it at 1-1. In the third,

Vermont scored again to get back in front. Diaz delivered his second RBI of the game for Vermont.

The bottom half of the inning included a run for Connecticut after Kreidler stole third and scored on a throwing error by the catcher to make it 2-2.

In the fifth, Vermont took the lead on again on a Tigers' error and a sacrifice fly by Nick Osborne. However, the lead did not last long.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Tigers took advantage of four Vermont walks to put up a four-spot in the inning. Bryant Packard added a sacrifice fly RBI to begin the scoring. Cooper Johnson followed and delivered the big hit of the inning with a three-RBI double to give the Tigers a 6-4 lead.

Austin Anderson (Win, 1-0) pitched a scoreless 1.1 to preserve the lead for Connecticut. Kyle Thomas (Hold, 3) pitched two scoreless innings surrendering one hit with two strikeouts.

Zack Hess (Save,2) came in to get his second save of the season in his second straight performance on the mound. Hess has not surrendered a run or hit this season. In his appearance, he went one inning with a strikeout.

The Connecticut Tigers are back in action tomorrow against the Vermont Lake Monsters. Fireworks presented by Liberty Bank will follow the contest. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Marco Jimenez (1-1, 6.00) gets his first career New York-Penn League start.
