Lakeland Flying Tigers News Release

The team with the best record in professional baseball is now a first-half divisional champion. The Lakeland Tigers defeated the Ft. Myers Miracle today in 11 innings, 2-1. The win completed a 4-game series sweep and clinched the Florida State League West Division first half championship for the Tigers.

The Tigers now hold a 6 game lead over 2nd place Dunedin with only 3 games left to play before the all-star break. Coming into the game today, the Tigers needed either a victory or a Dunedin loss to clinch the divisional title. Dunedin plays tonight against Tampa and has 4 games remaining before the break.

With the first half title, the Tigers have assured themselves a birth in the FSL playoffs and a matchup with the 2nd half champion in the first round. If the Tigers repeat as champions in the 2nd half, they would face off against a wildcard team in a best-of-three series.

The Tigers (43-19) now travel to Dunedin for a 3-game set with the Blue Jays. Following the series, ten Lakeland players will then make the trip to Clearwater for the 43rd annual FSL All-Star game on Saturday, June 18th. The Tigers have the most all-star representatives of any team in the league.
