Hamilton, Ontario - Hamilton Tiger-Cats Kevin Glenn, Otis Floyd and Arland Bruce III are giving back to the Hamilton community on Labour Day.
Glenn and Floyd, two natives of Detroit, Michigan, have teamed up to bring 1000 steelworkers from various unions, including USWA Local 1005, to the Labour Day Classic this Monday, September 7.
"Both Kevin and I come from Detroit where many of our family members worked in the plant so we understand that kind of lifestyle. When I came to Hamilton, it reminded me of Detroit - a city filled with hard working people," said Floyd. "When we found out that a lot of employees were going through tough times because of the economy, we thought we should give back to this community."
Bruce will host 200 children from the East Kiwanis Boys and Girls Club of Hamilton at the Labour Day Classic as he takes on his former team at Ivor Wynne Stadium. The children will be stationed in Section 8 and will each receive a Ticats shirt as they cheer on the Black and Gold.
"I'm excited to hear those kids cheering for the Ticats," said Bruce. "I want to make them feel like they can do anything that they put their minds to."
The Labour Day Classic kicks off at 4 p.m. on Monday as the Ticats take on the Toronto Argonauts at Ivor Wynne Stadium.
