Tierre Makes It 10

GREENVILLE, S.C. (March 3, 2003) – North Charleston point guard Tierre Brown has signed a 10-day contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers, the NBA team announced today, making him the 10th National Basketball Development League "callup" this season.

Brown is the third player from North Charleston to earn a spot on an NBA roster this season. Forward Damone Brown to Toronto and guard Corey Benjamin to Atlanta completes the list of Lowgators to earn a spot on an NBA roster this season. In all, nine players comprise the 10 callups, with Mike Wilks of Huntsville having been called up by both Atlanta and Minnesota.

Rounding out the 2002-03 list of NBDL-to-NBA callups this season are Devin Brown from Fayetteville to San Antonio, Mikki Moore from Roanoke to Boston, Rafer Alston from Mobile to Toronto, Bobby Simmons from Mobile to Washington and Brandon Williams from Huntsville to Atlanta. In less than two seasons the NBDL already has 18 NBA callups.

Brown played in and started 41 games for North Charleston, averaging 27.8 minutes, 15.4 points, 4.9 assists and 3.8 rebounds per game. He is 11th in the NBDL in scoring and sixth in assists. The McNeese State product was also named the NBDL Player of the Month for February, averaging 22.1 points, 6.7 assists and 5.1 rebounds over his last 10 games.

He played in 40 games with the Houston Rockets during the 2001-02 season, starting one and averaging 10.1 minutes, 3.1 points and 1.8 assists. Brown recorded a career NBA high of 16 points against Portland on April 17, 2002.

As a senior at McNeese State, Brown averaged 20.1 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.6 assists and left the program as the eighth all-time leading scorer (1,692) and third all-time assists leader (360). He was an All-Southland Conference performer as both a junior and a senior.
