Norfolk Tides News Release
August 15, 2008 - Ryan Bukvich allowed one hit in six shutout innings, pitching the Tides past the Charlotte Knights 4-3 in a rainy contest Friday night at Harbor Park.
After the start of the game was delayed by rain for an hour and 48 minutes, Bukvich (8-2) worked around some wildness to give the Tides the win in the opener of their eight-game homestand. He yielded just a third inning double to Jason Bourgeois in his outing, working around six walks to earn his third straight victory. Bukvich is now 5-1 with a 2.51 ERA in 16 games (four starts) at Harbor Park this season.
Tides closer Jim Miller surrendered a two-out run scoring single by Bourgeois in the 9th inning, but he retired Jerry Owens on a flyout to left to end the contest and pick up his 10th save of the season. Miller has now earned a save in each of his last six outings.
Mike Costanzo and Omir Santos each had two hits and an RBI in the contest, while Eider Torres and Tike Redman also added two hits in the win.
The victory improved Norfolk's record to 27-14 since July 1.
The Tides and Knights will continue their four-game set on Saturday, with first pitch from Harbor Park slated for 7:15 pm. Radhames Liz (2-5, 3.76) will take the hill for Norfolk against Charlotte right-hander Tomo Ohka (4-10, 4.11)
