D.C. United News Release
Washington, D.C. (June 1, 2007) - D.C. United announced today ticket information for the inaugural SuperLiga tournament, which pits the Black-and-Red against some of the best clubs in North America. This summer's tournament will showcase four of the best teams from MLS and four from the Primera Division of México. D.C. United will compete in Group B with Monarcas Morelia (July 25; 8 p.m. ET at RFK Stadium), Club América (July 29; 8 p.m. ET at RFK Stadium) and the Houston Dynamo (Aug. 1; 8 p.m. ET at Robertson Stadium).
"D.C. United has a history of hosting major international matches," said United Executive Vice President Stephen Zack. "We are excited about this tournament and are especially pleased to, for the first time ever, host Club America - a team with great history and tradition. We expect large crowds at both home matches and look forward to measuring ourselves against Mexico's best."
Pre-sale opportunities are available now. Both home games are included in Full Season ticket packages and each half-season plan includes one of the two games. All planholders can purchase tickets for both matches, in any quantity, at a special planholder price, while non-planholders can purchase special three-game packs, which include both home SuperLiga games as well as the July 14th match against FC Dallas. Groups of 20 or more will be able to purchase tickets earlier on June 4. Tickets will be available for public sale via TicketMaster on July 2. Tickets can be ordered on D.C. United's web site, www.dcunited.com, or at (202) 587-5000.
SuperLiga will be the preeminent club tournament in North America that will not only decide the best in the region, but will also award the heftiest winner's purse in North American soccer history. Eight clubs will compete in a competition comprised of a group phase to be followed by a knockout phase all held at U.S. venues between July 24 and August 29. The four MLS squads taking part in the inaugural tournament are four-time champion D.C. United, two-time champion Los Angeles Galaxy, last year's winner Houston Dynamo and FC Dallas, while the Mexican squads participating are 10-time champion Club América, Club Deportivo Guadalajara, Copa Sudamericana champion Pachuca and Monarcas Morelia as the final entry.
In addition to the prestige of capturing this continental honor, the club that emerges as SuperLiga champion will take home $1 million in prize money, an unprecedented prize purse in North American soccer history. The entire tournament will be broadcast live in primetime by Univision's TeleFutura Network in the United States and by Televisa and TV Azteca in Mexico. The SuperLiga final will be held on August 29 at a U.S. venue to be determined.
