
Thunderbolts Travel to Montgomery

The Lakeland Thunderbolts (8-2)travel to Montgomery to take on the 4-7 Bears.Lakeland is coming off a 51-24 drumming of interstate rival Tallahassee.The victory moved the Thunderbolts into a first place tie with Mississippi and potential home field advantage for the playoffs. "Our future is in our hands" said head coach Teddy Keaton."If we stay focused and continue to play as hard as we have been we will be the AIFA Southern Division champs.The key is staying focused" Keaton said."Many of our players are from Alabama and will be playing in front of their families and friends this should be additional motivation for them to play well" Keaton said.
"Montgomery is a good team and very capable of beating us" said defensive coordinator Pat Dooley. Montgomery beat the Baltimore Blackbirds 58 -11 in Montgomery. The Bears are averaging 40 points a game but giving up 47. The player to watch is quarterback Tyvon Green who is 83-159-8 with 19 touchdown passes. Green is also a leading rusher with 64 carries and 10 touchdowns.
Receiver Reggie Glover has 38 receptions and 10 touchdowns while Shaun Holmes has 24 receptions and 7 touchdowns. Defensively Archie Smith has 19 solo tackles and defensive back Deon Lewis has 5 interceptions returning 1 for a touchdown.
Lakeland continues to lead the league in defense holding their opponents to just 27 points. Larry Thompson continues to lead the league in interceptions. Thompson has picked off opposing quarterbacks in every game he has played in this season. Against the Titans last week Thompson picked off a Reggie Bell pass and returned it 43 yards for a touchdown.
The Thunderbolt offense has been averaging 54 points a game. Aso Pogi is 159-235-8 with 35 touchdown passes. AJ Bennett is leading the receiver corps with 57 receptions and 22 touchdowns.Octavius Day has 35 receptions and 7 touchdowns.
"We are in the home stretch with only three games left to play. The offense knows they have to produce and play as a unit in order for us to gain home field advantage for the playoffs" said offensive coordinator Kenny Johnson. "We control our destiny and I like that" Keaton said.
The Thunderbolts are on the road against Carolina next week then return for the finial regular season home game on Saturday June second.
