Lakeland ThunderBolts News Release
LAKELAND-The Lakeland ThunderBolts owners announced today, August 10, 2006, that they will no longer be a part of the National Indoor Football League, (NIFL). After much consideration the owners decided the best move for the ThunderBolts would be to enter the American Indoor Football League, (AIFL).
In 2005, the Lakeland ThunderBolts emerged as a new franchise in the NIFL and completed their second season as the Atlantic South Division Champs with a 13-3 record. The ThunderBolts will begin a 14 game season in February as members of the AIFL.
After much research into the already existing leagues and those newly forming leagues, the Lakeland ThunderBolts owners and coaching staff saw to move to the AIFL. The ThunderBolts are joined in the move by the Montgomery Bears (formerly the Montgomery Maulers).
The football playing rules of the AIFL are similar to the Arena Football League (AFL) rules and as result will benefit the ThunderBolts' players especially in being in such close proximity to such AFL teams as the Tampa Bay Storm and Orlando Predators.
The Lakeland ThunderBolts are back in 2007 for more hard hitting, world-class football. 2007 season tickets and corporate sponsorships are now available. For more information call 863.688.Thor (8467) or visit our office at 1628 South Florida Ave, Lakeland, FL 33803.
