May 6, 2005 - National Indoor Football League (NIFL)
Lakeland ThunderBolts News Release
LAKELAND, Fla. â Even with one of the top-rated quarterbacks in the National Indoor Football League sidelined last week, the Lakeland ThunderBolts continued their offensive ways.
Quarterback Jeremy Martin, despite being out, is still 4th this week in the NIFL's statistics parade. He is averaging 197.7 yards a game with 21 touchdowns and is second in total offense with 1,266 total yards.
The ThunderBolts entertain the Kissimmee Kreatures at 4 p.m. Sunday in the âMother's Day Special' game. Lakeland hopes to entertain with plenty of offense as it has in the past.
Rookie signal caller Michael Peeples kept the ThunderBolts passing offense at the top of the heap. His outstanding inaugural in the NIFL at Dayton, Ohio, produced four touchdowns. He was 17 of 29 for 191 yards.
Peeples performance kept Lakeland's passing offense in the top six teams. The âBolts average 188.9 yards a game in passing offense and a pass rating of 103.7.
Probably the hottest player in the league is receiver Tavarius Johnson.
The former Wayne State of Nebraska star has scored a touchdown in each of the last four games. He also has 19 catches for 255 yards and 5 TDs in the last three games.
His three touchdown, 79 yard effort on five catches against Dayton was equal to his season-opening game against Daytona Beach when he had five catches, three touchdowns and 73 yards.
Johnson ranks 4th in both receiving (407 yards) and receiving yards a game (58.1). His average in the last three games has been 80.3 yards a game.
The speedy Johnson also had leads the league in kickoff returns, averaging 29.1 yards. Of the nine returns, two have gone for touchdowns, including a 50 yarder at Dayton.
Defensively, Jason Geter, who is out for the season with an injury, is tied with two others for third in the league in sacks (3) Steve Kratz moved up to fifth in kick scoring with 39 points after connecting on four field goals against Dayton.
The ThunderBolts need to stop a four-game slide and they will be hungry against the Kreatures come Sunday.
