ThunderBolts Improve Their Record to 4-0

April 10, 2006 - National Indoor Football League (NIFL)
Lakeland ThunderBolts News Release

LAKELAND-ThunderBolts Running Back Perry Tisdale was on fire Saturday night, rushing for five touchdowns helping keep the winning strike alive. The ThunderBolts played the Montgomery (AL) Maulers, 34-21, in front of 2,133 at the Lakeland Center.

The game got off to a slow start for both teams. The ThunderBolts with 3:32 remaining in the first quarter struck first with a 2-yard touchdown run by Tisdale.

The touchdown was set up when Lakeland linebacker Deaubrey Devine recovered a fumbled snap from the Montgomery quarterback J.R. Richardson on the Maulers own 2 yard-line.

The touchdown Lakeland made late in the first quarter was the only touchdown scored going into halftime 7-0. The ThunderBolts offense struggled to gain command as quarterback Jason Johnson threw two interceptions.

The ThunderBolts offense was still continuing with 9:27 remaining in the second quarter Maulers linebacker Derrick Graves sacked Johnson and recovered his fumble at the ThunderBolts 9 yard-line.

Lakeland's defense did not let up on the Maulers after their fumble, they made three stops and then delivered their biggest blow of the half when Brenden Givan intercepted a fourth-down Richardson pass to secure the slim 7-0 lead.

Montgomery's special teams struggled in the first half missing 3 field goal attempts, while recording a mere 59 yards of total offense.

After halftime both teams started to shake the slump they had been in. On the opening drive Tisdale recorded his second touchdown on a 1 yard run as he pushed his way through three defenders at the goal line allowing Lakeland to go up, 14-0.

Montgomery wasted no time by responding on the next drive. Richardson threw a 28-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Machion Sanders that cut the lead to seven again. Lakeland's offense took over scoring 20 more points to secure the ThunderBolts victory 34-21.
