Lakeland ThunderBolts News Release

The Lakeland Thunderbolts (4-1) defeated the Florence Phantoms (1-4) Friday night in Florence 54 - 18. This was the second meeting between these two teams. The Thunderbolts beat the Phantoms 69-25 in the season home opener.

"Our defense had another outstanding game" Head Coach Teddy Keaton said "We had a solid performance from the defense tonight. The defense shut down the Phantom offense in the second half. Our defensive line was awesome especially in the second half. Larry Thompson also had another outstanding performance with 4 interceptions". said Defensive Coordinator Pat Dooley. Thompson is leading the team with 10 interceptions in 4 games. Defensive back Daimen Demps also had an interception and Jermaine Blakely recovered a fumble leading to a Thunderbolt touchdown.

Quarterback Aso Pogi had a great night throwing 6 touchdown passes. A.J. Bennett caught 4, Octavius Day and Don Robinson each had 1. Running back Marvin "Boogie" Brown rushed for 1 touchdown his fourth this season. "The offense was able to put a lot of points on the board but I am concerned we failed to score 4 times inside the red zone" said Offensive Coordinator Kenny Johnson. "We were able to play many of our young players giving us the opportunity to evaluate them and letting them gain valuable playing experience" Johnson said.

Having an open week will allow our injured players the time to heal. We are banged up and the extra time should allow us to get back to full strength" Keaton said. The Thunderbolts next game is on the road against the Danville Demolition on April 5th.

Due to the Phantom statistics computer crashing during the game no statistics were available.
