
Thunderbolts Defeat The Mudcats 54-31

The Lakeland Thunderbolts (7-2) up-set the league leading Mississippi Mudcats (10-2) 54-31.Coming into the game Mississippi was an offensive powerhouse scoring an average of 63 points per game. Lakeland the defensive leader was holding teams to just 26 points per game."Our defense has held the Mudcats offense to their two lowest scoring games this season" said Head Coach Teddy Keaton. "The defensive line pressured them all night.Our secondary made the necessary adjustments and were able to take advantage of their weaknesses. They are a great team and I know we will see them again in the playoffs" said defensive coordinator Pat Dooley. The defense made several key stops on fourth downs to stop the Mudcats. Marvin Brown playing on both sides of the ball intercepted a pass in the third quarter then scored three plays later on a three yard run. "This was a big win for us. Coming off a bye week we started out a little slow but got it together in the second half. My hat is off to our offensive line and the defense for getting us the ball" said offensive coordinator Kenny Johnson. Aso Pogi threw for four touchdowns and scored on a quarterback keeper. Receivers Don Robinson and AJ Bennett each had two touchdown catches and running backs Dave Parker and Marvin Brown each scored one.
The Thunderbolts take on the Tallahassee Titans (9-2) at home next Saturday at 7:00 PM. The second place Titans beat the Thunderbolts in Tallahassee 48-40. "When we played the Titans we were not mentally ready and the Titans were able control the game. We will be ready for them this time" Keaton said.
