
Thunderbirds, Austin Shanks Agree to One-Year Extension

HALIFAX, NS - The Halifax Thunderbirds today announced that the team has agreed to a one-year contract extension with forward Austin Shanks.
"We were fortunate to pick up Shanks in the entry draft back in 2017 and he has been a key part of our offence from day one," Thunderbirds Owner and General Manager Curt Styres said. "Austin has a knack for big goals in big games when we need it most. Looking forward to another great season with Shanks in the purple and orange."
Shanks, 29, just completed his fifth season in the National Lacrosse League, all of which have been spent as a member of the Thunderbirds' organization.
He was originally selected by the team in the first round (fifth overall) of the 2017 NLL Draft.
In 2023, he set a new career-high in assists with 37 to go along with 15 goals for 52 points in 12 games.
Across 66 career games, the Whitby, Ontario product has 112 goals and 137 assists for 249 points.
