Bloomington Thunder News Release

Muskegon, MI - Bloomington fought hard all the way to the final buzzer but was not able to grab a point in their final game of a three in three. The Thunder fell to the Muskegon Lumberjacks by the final score of 4-3 despite a final effort to tie the game up in the third.

The beginning of the first period was back and forth with both teams having a few chances. Eventually Muskegon put one in on a long shot from Trevor Hamilton to break the scoreless game at 5:23. Bloomington came back and changed the tied of the game eventually outshooting the Jacks 10-7 in the period. Their goal to tie the game up at one came from Butrus Ghafari (Western Michigan University) who rifled one off the end boards and past Eric Schierhorn. The Thunder stuffed the Jacks on two power play opportunities, as goaltender David Jacobson stood strong in the crease. He came away with 34 saves on the night

The Thunder would capitalize in the second with a goal to break the 1-1 tie. It was a power play goal for Bloomington, scored by Blake Gober at 8:44. It was also Gober's first goal in the USHL. The game was tied up by Robbie DeMontis (Yale University) heading to the second intermission at a 2-2 score.

In the third, Muskegon was able to break the tie with a power play goal at 9:46 after a strong performance by Jacobson on the penalty kill. Matej Paulovic (Dallas Stars) grabbed the power play goal at 9:46 to make it 3-2. Then after a questionable no call, Jack Rowe (University of North Dakota) scored the eventual game winner at 16:11. But Bloomington wouldn't quit in the game. They came back down the ice as Alec Mehr stripped Christian Wolanin (University of North Dakota) and gave the puck to Jake Slaker to bring the game within one.

The team's finished the game, each going 1-5 on the power play while the Thunder turned 35 shots onto the Jacks net.
