Thunder Win Second Straight Game

Rockford Thunder News Release

LEAGUE CITY, Texas - After dropping three of four games to Philadelphia two weeks ago back East, the Thunder of National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) was determined to even the score. They got off on the right foot on Wednesday night by taking game one of the series 3-1 at Big League Dreams in League City.

The game got off to a shaky start for Christa Williams and the rest of the Texas team, as they gave up a run in the first inning on a double, single and throwing error. Sarah Fekete started things off with a double for the Force and she was followed by Carri Leto who tried to bunt her over. Leto beat the play at first and Williams threw the ball away allowing Fekete to come around and score.

Although the Force out hit Texas seven to five in the game, Philadelphia couldn't manage to get another run across the plate.

Texas didn't waste much time tying the game, as they pushed across one of their own in the first inning. For the Thunder it was the speed of Kristen Zaleski that was the difference. Zaleski singled, stole second, moved to third on a passed ball and came in to score on a wild pitch.

The Thunder scored the eventual winning runs in the bottom of the third inning and again Zaleski was a part of it. Clare Burnum singled to leadoff the inning and she was knocked in on a triple by speedy Julie Watson. Zaleski would follow on the next pitch with a run-scoring double.

Zaleski led the way offensively for the Thunder. She finished the game 2-for-2 with a single, double and an RBI.

Williams was not dominant in the circle for the Thunder, but she was good enough to record her seventh win to zero losses. She went the distance for Texas allowing seven hits, while striking out seven batters to increase her league-leading total to 59.

The win on Wednesday night improved the Thunder to 11-6 on the season, while Philadelphia dropped to 3-8 with the loss. All three wins for the Force came two weeks ago to the Thunder.

Game two of the series with the Force is scheduled for Thursday night, June 29 at 7:05 p.m. First pitch on Thursday night is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Big League Dreams in League City (I-45 and Calder Road).
