Thunder training camp report

February 6, 2007 - World Indoor Football League 2 (WIFL 2)
Daytona Beach Thunder News Release

DELAND, Fla. - In a testament to the improved quality of the Daytona Beach Thunder's roster, a starter for the 2006 inaugural season was cut from the World Indoor Football League team's pre-season roster.

Durrell Preston, who started in all 13 games at defensive back last season, was waived as the coaching staff continues to work its way down to the league-mandated 25 players.

Preston had seven interceptions for the Thunder in 2006, second only to Nick Allison, who is in training camp with the Arena Football League's Orlando Predators.

"We're almost there, the last cuts will be the hardest, though," said assistant coach Jerome Porter.

Preparations for Sunday's opener against the Augusta Spartans continued with the defense looking sharper than the offense.

"The wide receivers, or 'offensive weapons' have to step it up in practice to reflect how the team will perform on Sunday.'' Said Thunder head coach Leon Bright.
