Daytona Beach Thunder News Release

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Cold weather and banged-up players made Monday's practice more cerebral for the Daytona Beach Thunder.

"We did a lot of running and stretching, trying to make sure we were good and loose while still getting a good workout in. Both the offense and defense responded to the practice well. We wanted to correct a lot the mental mistakes that were made during the scrimmage on Saturday," said Head Coach Ervin Bryson.

The Thunder practices again Tuesday at Mulberry Field in Daytona Beach.

SATURDAY SCRIMMAGE REPORT

DELAND, FL -- Backup quarterback Marcus Walker made the most of Saturday's Daytona Beach Thunder intersquad scrimmage at Spec Martin Stadium in DeLand, completing six of ten passes for two touchdown passes to David Kearse in addition to rushing for a two-point conversion, catching a touchdown from Travis Wilson during a stint as wide receiver and getting extended reps as a defensive back.

"He has been the excitement so far today,'' said Thunder Head Coach Ervin Bryson of Walker. "Being an athletic quarterback, his first instinct is to run the ball when he is in trouble and he showed that today.

"Kearse is learning the system very quickly and is doing a great job," Bryson added. "He is watching vet. Robert Bailey and picking up on how to run crisp routs while reading the defense on the run. He is our project for the season and I'm expecting some exciting thing from him during the season."

Hampered by strong winds and a myriad of dropped balls, Wilson completed just eight of 19 attempts, but four went for touchdowns - three to Robert Bailey. Wilson also rushed for a touchdown and a two-point conversion to lead the team coached by Bryson to a 38-20 decision over assistant coach Monterey Evans' squad.

Former Bethune-Cookman standouts Brad Lee and Tarion Hubbard scored for their respective teams, Lee on a 24-yard run and Hubbard on an interception return. "For the fourth day of practice, I'm very happy," said Bryson, who gave his team Sunday off as they made there way to Nelli's Deli for lunch.

Practice resumes Monday.
