Daytona Beach Thunder News Release
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Daytona Beach Thunder began practice for the 2006 American Indoor Football League season Wednesday evening at Mulberry Field.
Thunder Head Coach/General Manager Ervin Bryson was very pleased with the performance on both sides of the ball.
"As a team we looked good tonight," said Bryson. "We are able to adjust to bad situations quickly and the offense and the defense look really good so far."
One rookie who stepped up at practice was former USF defensive back Javon Camon, according to Bryson.
"Javon really impressed me tonight," Bryson said. "He was able to adjust to this style of defense so quickly."
On the offensive side, Calvin Thomas and Bethune-Cookman product Brad Lee stood out.
"Calvin and Brad made some nice runs out there," said Bryson. "The offensive line also did some great blocking tonight. The guys really picked up on the scheme of things and are heading in the right direction."
Travis Wilson, who played for the National Indoor Football League's Miami Morays last season, will be the starting quarterback for the Thunder this season. Wilson, who threw for 506 yards and 13 touchdowns, and lead the Morays in rushing with 307 yards last season is expected to do great things with the Thunder this year.
"Wilson has a great ability to recognize who is open and throw and run at the right time," said Bryson. "He really has the talent to lead this team."
Bryson also credited linebacker and former Bethune-Cookman standout Levar Sims as a huge asset to the defense. Also mentioned was offensive lineman Steve Canidate.
"These guys are really turning into a team," Bryson said. "They are really showing a lot of togetherness early on which I know will take them far." The Thunder resumes practice Thursday at 6 p.m.
