Thunder Take Game Two of the Season 8-7

May 26, 2011 - North American League (NAmL)
San Angelo Colts News Release

San Angelo, Texas---Yaibel Tamayo (2) hit the go ahead home run in the top of the ninth inning, off former major leaguer Francisco Cruceta, to give the McAllen Thunder an 8-7 win Thursday at Foster Field. The Colts threatened in the bottom of the inning as the game ended in a peculiar fashion. With runners on second and third and two outs, Danny Hernandez tried to score from third on a wild pitch, but was thrown out at the plate to end the game.

McAllen got off to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, before San Angelo tied it up with three solo home runs in the bottom of the third. Jareck West (2) and Trey Carter (2) led the way for the Colts in the home run department, as each went deep twice. Ronnie Gaines (2) added his second of the season to cap off the three-run third.

The teams went back and forth from that point, as San Angelo scored two in the fourth and McAllen plated single runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Each team scored two runs in the seventh to set the stage for Tamayo's home run.

Cruceta (0-1, 4.50) took the loss after allowing the ninth inning long ball, while Zach Rossetti (1-0, 0.00) earned the win in relief. Robert Roth (1) picked up his first save of the season.

The Colts will be back in action Friday night, when they send right-hander Chandler Barnard to the mound against Thunder lefty Jason Oatman. Last season Barnard led the Colts with eight wins to go with a 2.99 ERA. The game will feature a magnetic schedule giveaway sponsored by Double Dave's Pizzaworks.
