Thunder Sign DL/LB Dexter Davis

November 25, 2014 - Arena Football League (AFL) - Portland Thunder News Release

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Thunder have acquired rookie DL/LB prospect Dexter Davis, announced Head Coach Mike Hohensee on Tuesday.

Davis [6-foot-3, 230 lbs., Friends (Wichita, KS)] will enter his first season in the Arena Football League and first in Thunder uniform. Dexter comes to the Thunder following an illustrious career with the Friends University Falcons [NAIA (Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference)].

"We are excited about adding Dexter to our already strong defensive front" said Hohensee. "His athleticism is perfectly suited for the Arena game."

A two-time AFCA-NAIA All American, Dexter appeared in 39 games for the Falcons between 2009 and 2012, leading the team in sacks for three of his four seasons. In 2011, Davis finished in the top five of five separate NAIA individual defensive statistics, including top billings in sacks per game (1.4) and total sacks with 14. In 2012, the then senior Davis repeated his 2011 total for sacks, with 14, and forced an astonishing 8 fumbles in 11 starts.

Following the end of his football eligibility, Davis continued to pursue athletics while continuing his education at Friends. Dexter was a key member of the 2013/14 Outdoor Track and Field team for the Falcons, specifically in short distance races, setting the 2014 conference record in the 100m (10.52 sec). Davis was named KCAC Track Athlete of the week following his winning performance in the 100m at the KCAC Tournament, and participated in the 2014 NAIA Nationals.
