Rockford Thunder News Release
ROCKFORD, Ill. - Fresh off of a home series against the Akron Racers (16-16), the Rockford Thunder (14-18) are making a quick turnaround and playing the Racers in their home park for a four-game series, beginning Tuesday.
In this past series, several Thunder players had some great games. Stephanie Best, Lindsay Gardner, and Stephanie Fischer each hit home runs against Akron. Serena Settlemier and Allison Kime each picked up a win in the series.
The Thunder remain in sixth place in the NPF standings following the series, but are just two games behind the Racers for the final qualifying spot for the NPF Playoffs.
Opening Pitching Matchup
ROC: Allison Kime (6-5, 2.91 ERA)
Kime went 1-1 against Akron last week at Players Park. Her first outing was a combined shutout (along with Cassidy Scoggins, who pitched 0.2 innings for Rockford). In her second start she gave up three earned runs over 3.0 innings to take the loss.
AKR: Angela Tincher (10-5, 1.79 ERA)
While going 1-1 against the Thunder, Tincher showed why she is at or near the top in nearly every pitching statistic in the NPF. She showed some signs of being overworked in her first appearance, lasting only a couple innings. She threw a shutout in game three of the series.
Players to Watch
ROC: Second baseman Lindsay Gardner lit it up in the Akron home series. She hit 5-for-12, while scoring two runs and driving four in. She also hit a long home run in the Thunder's 5-0 game one victory.
AKR: Kristen Butler hit three homers against the Thunder, including two in Akron's 9-2 game three win.
