Thunder Rolls Past Mavericks, 5-2

Kansas City Mavericks News Release

WICHITA, Kan. - The Kansas City Mavericks (11-4-1-0) dropped their second-straight contest, the club's first streak of games without a point of the season, a 5-2 decision at the hands of the Wichita Thunder (6-8-3-1) Tuesday night at INTRUST Bank Arena.

The Thunder got on the board first, Mark MacMillan's third of the season and second against the Mavericks near the halfway point of the first. Kansas City tied it up near the end of the frame, Cliff Watson's third lamp-lighter of the campaign, and the game appeared to be heading to the locker room tied.

That was not to be, though, as Travis Brown connected on his first of two scores in the game with just two seconds left in the opening frame - goal number one of four straight for Wichita, a span that lasted well into the third period.

The scoring streak was snapped by Corey Durocher's power play goal, his third point in as many games, to trim the deficit to 5-2 and produce the eventual final score.

The Mavericks return to home ice this weekend for a pair of games against the Tulsa Oilers, including Saturday's Marvel Iron Man Night and Teddy Bear Toss game. Tickets are still available for each contest.
