February 20, 2014 - Arena Football League (AFL)
Portland Thunder News Release
PORTLAND, OR - The Portland Thunder made several moves on Thursday. In addition to picking up offensive lineman Davon Allen from Arizona in exchange for future considerations, they were assigned wide receiver Duane Brooks and placed receiver Elvis Akpla and defensive lineman Darrell Campbell on recallable reassignment.
"It's great any time you can get some guys with Arena Football experience coming into training camp," said Head Coach Matthew Sauk. "Both Duane and Javon know what it takes to play in this league and will make camp that much more competitive."
Allen (6-2, 325) played in four games as a rookie with the Arizona Rattlers in 2013. He played in 48 games, starting 33, at Rice and earned honorable mention All-Conference-USA honors as a sophomore.
Brooks (5-11, 185) spent the 2013 season playing for the Spokane Shock, and picked up 316 yards and six touchdowns on 35 receptions in his rookie campaign. In college at Stephen F. Austin University, Brooks set school records for receptions in back-to-back seasons - his senior season with 118 receptions for 1,076 yards and six touchdowns.
The Portland Thunder will kick off its inaugural season at the Moda Center on Monday, March 17th when they take on the San Jose SaberCats. Season tickets are available for purchase starting as low as $99 by calling 503-773-4AFL or by visiting www.portlandthunder.com.
