Daytona Beach Thunder News Release

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Daytona Beach Thunder's hopes for an American Indoor Football League Southern Conference playoff berth faded Saturday night when the Chattahoochee Valley Vipers clinched the fourth and final spot with a 74-10 shelling of the Florence Phantoms.

The Thunder (6-7) needed the Vipers (8-5) to lose their final two games and Daytona Beach to defeat the Rome Renegades next Saturday to sneak into the post-season. The Thunder did hold the tiebreaker with the Vipers with a +27 point advantage.

Rome (11-2) and the Richmond Bandits (11-2) will host conference semi-finals on June 19. Currently, the Renegades have the tiebreaker advantage thanks to a season sweep over the defending AIFL champions.

The Raleigh Rebels (8-5) have clinched the third playoff berth.

Next week's regular season finales will determine who plays who in the opening round. In addition to Rome-Daytona Beach, Richmond hosts Chattahoochee Valley while Raleigh travels to Augusta.
