Stockton Thunder News Release
STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, a two-time recipient of the ECHL "Award of Excellence," is participating in the annual fundraising event "Movember" for the third consecutive season, encouraging fans to continue with donation pledges for moustaches grown by the team to support men's health.
The men of Movember commit to growing a moustache for 30 days to raise funds and awareness.
An annual event in November which includes participation from several teams in professional hockey, several members of the Thunder team, hockey and front office staff are growing moustaches until Nov. 30, symbolic of the fight against cancer among males.
"It's been an honor and a lot of fun to participate in such a great fundraiser as Movember," said Thunder head coach Matt Thomas. "We encourage our supporters to do what they can and donate any amount, large or small, to this initiative as the month winds down. The opportunity to do our part and raise money for male related cancer awareness and funding is something that we feel strongly about."
Donations for individual Thunder moustache pledges are being accepted online and the funds raised through Movember's campaign benefit various men's health partners. Last year, over 854,000 participants in Movember helped raise over $126 million (USD).
More information can be found at www.movember.com. The Thunder pledge site, featuring individual photos, is located here. All fans, whether growing a moustache or a fan of the moustache, can also join the Movember site and pledge for donations by registering for free.
The Thunder has drawn over 1.5 million fans to Stockton Arena since 2005-06, its first season in the ECHL, and led the league in attendance from 2005-09.
