Trenton Thunder News Release
(Manchester, NH)- Justin Singleton's two-run homer produced the only runs of the game as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats knocked off the Trenton Thunder, 2-0, in Eastern League play on Friday.
Thunder starter Matt Smith (0-1) rolled through the first four innings and recorded the first two outs of the 5th Inning before a two-out double by 3B Danny Solano. Singleton followed with a two-run blast to centerfield for his first homer of the year and a 2-0 lead. Smith allowed two runs on four hits in five innings with one walk and eight strikeouts.
New Hampshire (5-1) got another solid performance from a starting pitcher. Tonight, Gustavo Chacin tossd five shutout innings to get the win. He allowed three hits to Trenton (2-3), including two doubles, but didn't allow a run. The Thunder got a leadoff double from CF Kevin Reese in the 3rd Inning, but was caught in a rundown on a ground ball by the next hitter, SS Ferdin Tejeda.
Jordan DeJong, Kevin Frederick and Adam Peterson combined for four hitless innings of relief. It was the second straight night that New Hampshire's bullpen worked four hitless innings. And like last night, Adam Peterson worked the 9th inning for the save, his 4th of the season.
Trenton and New Hampshire meet at 1:05 PM on Saturday. Javier Ortiz (0-0, 5.40) starts for the Thunder against Todd Ozias, who will be making his first appearance of the season.
