BROOMFIELD, CO- The Wichita Thunder lost 3-1 to the Rocky Mountain Rage at the Broomfield Event Center on Sunday afternoon.
The Rage opened a 2-0 lead with first period goals from David Morelli at 4:04, and Brent Cullaton at 19:04. Cullaton's goal came on the power play.
Jason Duda put Wichita on the scoreboard, roofing a goal past the backdoor of Marty Magers at 13:44 in the second period after a pass through the slot from Joel Hanson. Near the end of the second, Wichita killed of 1:53 of a two-man advantage for the Rage.
The Thunder however could not find the game-tying goal in the third period, and fell behind 3-1 when Daymen Rycroft scored on an empty net with 50 seconds left in the game.
Krister Toews took the loss, saving 28 of 30 shots. Wichita went 0 for 7 on the power play, while going 5 for 6 on the penalty kill. Marty Magers earned the win for the Rage, saving 30 of 31 shots.
