Scorpions Sweep Amarillo

[AMARILLO, Tex.]-Behind a big first period, the Scorpions dominated Amarillo 4-1 on Sunday afternoon. The win gave New Mexico a two-game sweep against their division rivals.

The Scorpions came out and rattled off three goals in the opening frame. Craig Macdonald pushed in an easy tip in goal 56 seconds into the contest.

After scoring the first goal Macdonald set up the second Scorpions goal. His shot ricocheted off Mike Gorman's pads right to Seth Leonard, who tucked the puck under the crossbar for the 2-0 Scorps lead. Mitch Stephens set up shop behind the net on the Scorpions first power play of the afternoon. His pass deflected off a stick went right to Neil Trimm who shot it into the net.

The Gorillas used their power play to get on the board in the second period. John Snowden scored his ninth goal of the season at the 8:38 mark of the middle frame.

Mitch Stephens added insurance for the Scorpions with his third point of the game at the 6:56 mark. Scorps' net minder Andrew Martin played solid in net making 27 saves.

The Scorpions head to Rapid City for a pair of games Friday and Saturday. It will be their first games against the expansion Rush with the puck drop at 7:05 p.m.
