Thunder Drop Two to Flying Squirrels

TRENTON, NJ - The Thunder drop a pair of ballgames to the Richmond Flying Squirrels Saturday in a double-header at ARM & HAMMER Park.

Richmond took the first game 3-2 and then the second game 7-3 in a sweep that drops Trenton to 32-30 on the season and 1-6 in the month of June. The stands were packed with 7,587 fans on a gorgeous night where Richmond's offense out-slugged Trenton's with the wind blowing out to left field. The Flying Squirrels combined for five homers between the two games including two by Javier Hererra to pace their offense in the sweep.

Jose Ramirez started Game One, and earned a no-decision after five innings of two-run ball. He struck out five batters on 78 pitches, but Tommy Kahnle earned the loss by allowing a go-ahead homer to Adam Duvall in the 6th inning for a 3-2 Richmond lead.

In Game Two, Nik Turley allowed four runs in 5.0 innings for the loss. The loss was Turley's fourth, and his record drops to 5-4 on the season. Making his third relief appearance as part of a MLB rehab appearance was Cesar Cabral who allowed three runs in the 6th inning to the Flying Squirrels. He struck out two of the three batters he faced in a 1-2-3 7th inning, but Cabral has now allowed seven runs in 5.0 innings for a 12.60 ERA,

Trenton dropped both games of the double-header after having won 15 consecutive seven-inning games dating back to September 3, 2011. The Thunder swept their first double-header of the season April 30th vs. New Hampshire, and were 12-0 last season before stumbling in Game One tonight.

The Thunder and Flying Squirrels complete their three-game series Sunday at 1:05 p.m. The game features a starting pitcher matchup of RHP Zach Nuding (2-7, 3.39) against RHP Craig Westcott (3-6, 3.88) for Richmond.
