Thunder Drop Defensive Affair to RiverKings

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. - The Bloomington Thunder were shutout for only the second time this season as they fell in a defensive affair to the Mississippi RiverKings 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at Landers Center.

The RiverKings scored on their first power play of the game with 14:09 left in the opening period with a Daniel Sobotka top shelf shot from the center point.

Mississippi capitalized on a turnover at the top of their zone to start a 2-on-1 break, finished by Matt Whitehead with a wrister from the left circle with 2:23 remaining in regulation for the 2-0 advantage.

Both goalies turned aside 28 shots as Matt Krahn earned the win with B.J. O'Brien taking the loss. Mississippi was 1-of-5 on the power play while the Thunder were unofficially given 10 chances.

The Thunder return home this weekend for three games against the Mississippi Surge. Face-offs are scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 3:05 p.m. Sunday. Friday is Pepsi Date Night with two tickets for only $20 when bringing a Pepsi product to the U.S. Cellular Coliseum box office. On Saturday, kids 12 and under get in free with a paid adult admission and a flyer available on the team web site and on Facebook courtesy of Easton Sports, plus kids 12 and under eat free (hot dogs, corn dogs, nachos, fries and popcorn) until the first Thunder goal courtesy of SERVPRO. Saturday also features the annual Teddy Bear Toss when fans can throw new stuffed animals onto the ice after the first Thunder goal to be donated to Toys for Tots. Fans can skate with the Thunder after Sunday's game.
