Bloomington Thunder News Release
PEORIA - The Bloomington Thunder broke a four-game losing streak and a six-game skid against the Peoria Rivermen with a 4-1 victory on Sunday afternoon at Carver Arena. The Thunder victory ended a six-game win streak and eight-game point streak for Peoria.
The Thunder scored first with 4:36 remaining as Kevin Walrod scored a wraparound goal at an open right post, but the Rivermen tied the game just one minute later on a 5-on-3 power play drive from the slot by Garrett Vermeersch to send the teams to the dressing room at the first intermission even at 1-1.
Bloomington earned a 2-1 advantage just 4:43 into the middle chapter on a breakaway goal by Tyler Noseworthy on a feed from Curtis Megginson. Walrod collected his second goal of the game and his sixth of the weekend with a power play tally on a far side feed at the right circle from Sy Nutkevitch and Megginson with 1:46 left in the second period to give the Thunder a 3-1 advantage at the break.
The Thunder increased their lead to 4-1 with 11:30 left in regulation when Burke Gallimore took advantage of a failed clearance with a wrister from the left circle.
Max Strang earned a 30-save victory in net while Eric Levine took the loss with 29 stops.
