McAllen Thunder News Release
McAllen, TX - The McAllen Thunder of the new North American League announced the addition of Mike Mosley to the coaching staff for the upcoming 2011 season.
Mosley will be manger Matt Stark's assistant coach for the 2011 season and also will be the base coach and hitting coordinator for the team. He will also have the responsibility of throwing batting practice.
"We had heard about him, said Stark, "We approached him early and now we have someone who can throw BP better than anyone else."
Mosley is well known for being in the Guinness Book of World Records for the most pitches thrown during batting practice in under nine hours. In March 2008, Mosley threw 7,003 hittable pitches in eight hours and 33 minutes which earned him the nickname Mr. 7000.
Mosley is well known around the baseball world having worked with numerous major leaguers. Former major leaguers like Barry Bonds and Greg Vaughn sought the service of Mosley throughout their careers. Even current major leaguers like Shane Victorino of the Phillies have worked with Mosley in the past.
Former Los Angeles Dodger Tommy Lasorda gave Mosely the nickname "Rubber Arm" after he worked with the Dodgers organization in their 2003 spring training.
He started throwing batting practice when he got injured while in college at Fullerton College and he has been doing that ever since.
Mosley is also known for doing his part for charity. In the past he has thrown batting practice where a portion of the proceeds have gone to an autism support group and has even help support the battle for breast cancer.
Mosley's experience and his ability to work well with players makes him a good fit for the position.
"We blend well and he has good knowledge of the game so he has been a good addition," added Stark.
The Thunder will play their first game on the road May 25 in San Angelo and will make their first valley appearance on Sunday, May 29 in Harlingen against the White Wings. Tickets for their Home Opener on Friday, June 10 are on sale now along with Season Box Seat Tickets and the season long Family Pass. Call (956) 380-6256for more information.
