Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release
Lewiston, ME (QMJHL)- For the first two periods of Saturday night's game, the Acadie-Bathurst Titan had things going their way, as they took a 1-0 lead into the third. However, the tide changed in the third, as the MAINEiacs used a pair of goals from Jess Tanguy to bring a crowd of 1,839 to its feet. Lewiston's perfect 5-for-5 penalty kill helped to keep Acadie-Bathurst off of the board for the rest of the night, as the home team held on for a 2-1 win.
The game was scoreless for the better part of two periods, until a late goal by the Titan gave the visitors the lead. Acadie-Bathurst had previously killed off a four-minute power play, giving them the momentum. With 46 seconds left in the middle frame, Christophe Losier backhanded a shot through Nicholas Champion's legs. Gabriel Levesque and Jeremie Fraser picked up the assists.
Lewiston's comeback started a little more than five minutes into the third, when Jess Tanguy banked a shot off of Titan goaltender Dereck Tait and in for a 1-1 tie. Olivier Dame-Malka and Stefan Fournier had the assists on a goal that featured points by three former Acadie-Bathurst players.
Midway through the final period, the dislike between the two clubs began to set in. A scrum between the two sides took place at the 9:14 mark, before Sam Finn threw down the gloves with Christophe Losier at 11:31. Finn's victorious fight lifted the MAINEiacs, who took the lead 29 seconds later. Once again it was Tanguy, beating Tait with a wrist shot on his stick side. Both Fourniers assisted on the goal, giving Dillon his first career point in the QMJHL.
Nicholas Champion made the win stand up, defeating his former team with 21 saves on 22 shots. Dereck Tait suffered the loss for the Titan, despite allowing just two goals on 22 shots.
The MAINEiacs will now head on the road for four games in five days, beginning on Wednesday night, when the team visits the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies at 7:30. Lewiston's next home game is on October 8th against Victoriaville. The October 8th game is the annual "Pink in the Rink" game, when the MAINEiacs will don pink jerseys in the fight against breast cancer.
