Threshers opening night features top prospect and major leaguer

Clearwater Threshers News Release


The Clearwater Threshers open the 2006 Florida State League season against rival Dunedin Blue Jays at Bright House Networks Field. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.

The Phillies top prospect Cole Hamels is scheduled to take the mound for the Threshers. Dunedin counters with major leaguer A.J. Burnett who is on a rehabilitation assignment along with catcher Greg Zaun who is also on a rehab assignment.

Opening day festivities include the Principal Family Fun Fest which will be set-up just outside the main gates and will be begin at 4:05 PM. It is a free baseball exhibit that will visit 50 different minor league ballparks this season.

The Principal Family Fun Fest features more than 20 baseball themed attractions including a minor league baseball museum, the Xbox 360 Home Run Derby video game trailer, batting and pitching cages, a side-by-side giant slide, and more interactive fun for fans of all ages.

The gates open at 5:45 PM and the first 1,000 fans receive a Threshers jersey koozie sponsored by Coors Light. Additionally it is Thirsty Thursday where all drinks are 2-for-1.
