Three USL Championship Matches to Watch this Week: Week 9
April 30, 2019 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Nashville SC News Release
NASHVILLE - Nashville Soccer Club managed to come out of Pittsburgh with a point in hand on Saturday thanks to a 2-2 draw, and with such a tight cluster of teams in the USL Championship Eastern Conference standings, every point matters.
While the Boys in Gold will travel to Atlanta to take on ATL UTD 2 on Saturday, there's a whole lot of soccer going on around the USL Championship that Nashville SC fans should look out for throughout the weekend.
Here are three matches to watch this week:
Friday, May 3 at 6:30 PM
Loudoun United FC vs. Bethlehem Steel
This Friday night showdown will mark Loudoun United FC's first home match in club history taking place at Audi Field in Washington, D.C. The young expansion side recently earned its first win in club history with a 3-1 victory at New York Red Bulls II. They'll look to feed off of some home energy and earn yet another win to put them firmly in the hunt for a playoff spot. Meanwhile, Bethlehem Steel FC will be looking to shake off a two-match losing streak in which they have given up five goals and scored just one.
Saturday, May 4 at 6:00 PM
Indy Eleven vs. North Carolina FC
After a hot start to the season, Indy Eleven is now facing a handful of serious tests from the other top clubs in the Eastern Conference, and the next test is this Saturday when Indy hosts North Carolina FC. The club recently dropped a 2-1 defeat against New York Red Bulls II last Sunday and will face another top club in the Tampa Bay Rowdies on Wednesday before hosting NCFC. With a 4-2-0 record entering the week, Indy will look to get back to winning ways against other top clubs in the East. On the other side, North Carolina FC is riding a two-match winning streak after a pair of decisive three-goal victories over Charlotte Independence and Hartford Athletic. This matchup will be a huge litmus test for both clubs.
Saturday, May 4 at 6:30 PM
Charleston Battery vs. Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC
As winners of three of their last four matches, Charleston Battery will host Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC in a matchup between Nashville SC's last two opponents. Riverhounds SC has two wins and three draws in its last five matches, and it will look to continue that run of form on the road at Charleston and keep pace in a tight standings race. Pittsburgh's matches in that run have featured no more than four total goals, as two of the matches ended in 2-2 draws and one in a 3-1 Riverhounds victory. Charleston Battery has won three of its last four matches, and currently sits on 14 points for a top-five spot in the Eastern Conference. With other top teams doing battle against each other this weekend, Charleston will look to keep pace and climb up the ladder a bit.
