Three SwampDogs Selected to CPL All-Star Game
July 3, 2015 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Fayetteville SwampDogs News Release
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Fayetteville SwampDogs will send three players to the 2015 Coastal Plain League All-Star Game, to be played July 13th at Sparrow Stadium in Florence, S.C.
Sky Overton (Soph./Furman) was selected as a starting outfielder for the East Division team, while Austin Upshaw (Fr./Kennesaw State) will serve as a reserve first baseman. Kodi Whitley (Soph./Mount Olive) was voted to pitch out of the bullpen.
"Sky, Austin, and Kodi have been tremendous for us this summer, and are well deserving of this honor," said SwampDogs general manager Jeremy Aagard. "We are very fortunate to be able to have these three outstanding athletes playing for us at 'The Swamp.'"
Overton has been a spark at the top of the SwampDogs lineup this year, hitting .315 on the season. His nine doubles rank fourth in the Coastal Plain League.
Upshaw has been the SwampDogs most potent power bat in 2015, leading the team in both home runs (3) and runs batted in (16).
Whitley was a rock at the back end of the SwampDogs bullpen, recording a team-leading four wins, with a 2.25 ERA. Whitley played for the SwampDogs in 2014 as well acting as a starting pitcher down the stretch.
This marks the 17th season that the Coastal Plain League has hosted an All-Star Game. Players are separated by division and will be competing in front over a large contingency of scouts as well as fans. Since the game is being played in the Florence RedWolves home ballpark, the West All-Stars will be the home team while the East All-Stars will serve as the visitors.
