
Three St. Louis women receive wild card draw in USTA Pro Event

Officials of the Dwight Davis Merrill Lynch Championships, St. Louis' first USTA Women Pro Circuit event, announced three St. Louis natives as the wild card draws for the tournament. Alex Lehman and Michelle Kedzierski received the singles qualifying wild cards while the singles main draw wild card was awarded to Whitney Jones.
"I am so thrilled and honored to be given a wild card to this event," says Alex Lehman, a senior at John Burroughs High School.
Lehman, who began playing tennis at age 6, continues to achieve great success both on and off the court. A member of the All Metro Team in 2007-2008 and the St. Louis Post Dispatch High School Player of the Year in 2006 and 2007, Lehman reached a ranking of 49 in the USTA Girls 18. She will attend Harvard University in the Fall 2009, playing on the school's tennis team coached by Traci Green.
Michelle Kedzierski began her junior year at St. Joseph's Academy ranked No. 1 in the Missouri Valley USTA Girls 18. She is currently ranked No. 65 in the National USTA Girls 18 and received the St. Louis District Junior Female Player of the year in 2006 and 2008. In 2006, she was the Singles State Champion. She plans on playing Division I college tennis after graduating in 2010.
Whitney Jones has been in the St. Louis tennis spotlight for years. After graduating from the University of Missouri-St. Louis in 2006, she began her full-time professional tennis career. Playing in tournaments across the globe, including Europe and Asia, Jones currently has a doubles ranking of 400. "I grew up playing at Dwight Davis Tennis Center and am very excited about having the opportunity to play in my hometown," said Jones.
Qualifying rounds of the Dwight Davis Merrill Lynch Championships will begin Sunday, Oct. 12 at Dwight Davis Tennis Center in Forest Park. On Tuesday, Oct. 14, the Main Draw pay will start.
