Three-Run Ninth Inning Lifts Barnstormers To Come-From Behind Victory Over Bees

(New Britain, CT) - The Lancaster Barnstormers (14-14, 52-39) defeated the New Britain Bees (15-15, 48-45) 5-3 at New Britain Stadium on Saturday night to even up the three-game weekend series at a victory apiece.
New Britain starting pitcher Devin Burke registered a no-decision in the ballgame, allowing two runs on six hits in five innings on the mound, walking two and striking out three while throwing a wild pitch and hitting a batter. Lancaster starting pitcher Jonathan Albaladejo also did not factor in the game's final outcome, giving up three runs (two earned runs) on six hits across five innings pitched, walking two and striking out five along with a wild pitch tossed. Matt Reynolds fired a clean bottom half of the ninth inning for his 20th save of the season.
Trailing 2-0 in the bottom half of the fifth inning, the Bees cut the deficit to 2-1 by way of a run-scoring groundout off the bat of Darren Ford that plated James Skelton after he led off the frame with a free pass. New Britain jumped out in front 3-2 in the home half of the sixth when Jason Rogers scored on a double off the wall in left centerfield by Jovan Rosa, his fifth rib-eye steak of the series. The boys from the Hardware City enjoyed the one-run cushion all the way to the top of the ninth with Scribner coming on in relief in search of his second save in as many outings, but this time visitors got the last laugh as they tallied three unanswered runs versus the Bees closer to regain the advantage 5-3, highlighted by a sacrifice fly from Vladimir Frias, an RBI base knock by Rico Noel, and a pair of costly New Britain errors as Lancaster was able to mount the comeback in their final turn at the plate, handing Scribner (1-3) the blown save and the loss, while making a winner out of reliever Stephen Johnson (3-0), as New Britain suffered their 17th blown lead resulting in a defeat on the 2018 campaign, putting a damper on a game that saw the Bees steal a season-high five bases overall. The Bees conclude their three-game weekend series with the Lancaster Barnstormers at New Britain Stadium on Sunday, August 12th. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 P.M.
