Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release

FARGO, ND - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks picked up three runs in the eighth off of five singles to pull away from the visiting Winnipeg Goldeyes, 8-5, on Saturday, May 11, at Newman Outdoor Field.

The three-run eighth began with Jose Garcia and Buddy Sosnoskie reaching base on singles with one out. Tim Alberts hit the eventual game-winning run with the first RBI single of the eighth, giving the RedHawks a 6-5 lead. After a Ronnie Bourquin strikeout, Nick Akins and Ryan Pineda hit RBI singles of their own to put the lead out of the Goldeyes' reach

RedHawks reliever Chris Squires picked up the win after pitching a scoreless eighth and Tim Johnson earned his second save of the preseason for pitching the ninth. Joesph Cruz started for Fargo-Moorhead, while Tyler Hess and MacKenzie King combined to allow for two hits in four innings of relief.

Goldeyes reliever Chris Kissock was the losing pitcher after allowing three earned runs in the eighth. Tim Griffin pitched the seventh and eighth allowing no runs and Alex Capaul threw 2 2/3 innings, allowing one earned run on two hits and three walks with three strikeouts.

Winnipeg held a 5-4 lead through 4 1/2 innings before Fargo-Moorhead evened the score at five in the fifth. The Goldeyes threatened to score in the sixth with runners at the corners and no outs - but a Nick Liles sacrifice fly was spoiled by RedHawks left fielder Sosnoskie's throw to the plate that got home in time to tag Goldeyes runner Nate Samson out at the plate - the second play at the plate in two days made by a RedHawks outfielder.

Fargo-Moorhead had several players with multiple hits. Pineda led the charge going 2-for-3 with a two-run double and RBI single. Nick Akins hit a sacrifice fly in the first and finished with two hits. Todd Jennings and Alberts each had two hits with two RBIs and an RBI, respectively. Garcia picked up two hits and scored two runs.

Goldeyes leadoff hitter Fehlandt Lentini had three hits and Nate Samson recorded two. Leonard Davis hit an RBI triple and Casey Haerther hit an RBI single in the first.

The RedHawks had five errors in the game compared to the Goldeyes' one.

The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks are now 3-2 in exhibition play and are 2-1 against Winnipeg this preseason. The RedHawks will conclude their home exhibition schedule at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 12, at Newman Outdoor Field against the Goldeyes.
