
Three Power-Play Goals Lead Alpena Past U.S. Nat'l Under-17 Team

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The U.S. National Under-17 Team fell to the North American Hockey League's North Division-leading Alpena IceDiggers, 4-1 tonight at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube.
Alpena got on the board first when Justin Stadler notched a power-play tally when he beat U.S. netminder Michael Clemente (Great Falls, Va.) from in tight on the net with 1:40 remaining in the opening frame. Alpena added a second marker midway through the second period to carry the 2-0 advantage into the final frame.
In the third period Team USA struck first when Danny Kristo (Eden Prarie, Minn.) deposited a rebound past a sprawled Alpena netminder to cut the IceDiggers advantage to 2-1 midway through the period.
Alpena replied though, 1:10 later when Chad Billins tallied a goal on an IceDiggers five-on-three power play. Alpena made it 4-1, 19 seconds later when Erik Peterson added another power-play goal to put the game out of reach.
The U.S. National Under-17 Team will host the Traverse City North Stars tomorrow afternoon, game time is set for 3:00 p.m. EST at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube.
