Alpena wins on the road

Ann Arbor MI: The Alpena IceDiggers got back on the winning track tonight with a 3-1 win over the USA U-17 team tonight in Ann Arbor front of 371 fans, which were mostly Alpena faithful.

For the first time in IceDiggers history the game was penalty free, not one infraction was called the entire sixty minutes.

After a scoreless first period, Rookie forward Jimmy McCusker (Novi MI) got the IceDiggers on the board first with a goal from the net front, assisting on the marker was Ricardo Yesue Allen Park MI). With :30 seconds left in the period captain Nolan Craner (Plainwell MI) converted on a pretty pass from Chad Billins (Marysville MI) to give the visitors a 2-0 lead after forty minutes of play.

"We were very good in the second period and that's what gave us the win, we are playing well right now and need to continue to get better each game in order to have success in this league." said head coach Kenny Miller

Team USA would score just 1:30 second into the 3rd to cut Alpena's lead to one, but with just under four minutes to go in the game the veteran Yesue would score on a two on one pass from Drew Pierson (Pleasant Prairie WI) to seal the win for the IceDiggers.

Rookie netminder Shawn Hunwick (Sterling Hts. MI) earned his 10th win of the season making 32 saves.

The IceDiggers and Team USA will battle again on Saturday in Ann Arbor face off is set for 7:00PM.
