
Three Port Huron Icehawks Receive IHL Weekly Honors

PORT HURON, Mich. - Three members of the Port Huron Icehawks received International Hockey League honors for the week ending April 7, the league announced Monday.
Defenseman Chris Bogas has been named the Pepsi IHL Defenseman of the Week, left wing Josh Aspenlind has been named the Aquafina IHL Rookie of the Week and goaltender Larry Sterling has been named the Southern Sports Supply IHL Goaltender of the Week.
Bogas finished the week with one goal and three assists and a plus/minus rating of +7 in four games. He recorded points in three consecutive games, but the streak was snapped in Sunday's 3-2 shootout loss to Fort Wayne. The defenseman was also named IHL Defenseman of the Week in week 19 this season.
Other defenseman nominated for the Pepsi IHL Defenseman of the Week include: Bloomington's Casey Handrahan, Flint's Brock Wilson, Fort Wayne's Jake Pence, Kalamazoo's John Miller and Muskegon's Philippe Plante.
Aspenlind finished Week 25 with three goals and one assist and a plus/minus rating of +6. He entered the week on a two game point streak and extended that streak to five games. He registered seven points in that span, with four goals and three assists. The streak was snapped on Sunday. The left wing is currently ranked fourth among league rookies in points with 50 (18g, 32a). The honor is Asepnlind's third league award this season. He also received Rookie of the Week honors in weeks five and 14.
Other players nominated for the Aquafina Rookie of the Week include: Bloomington forward Brett Holmberg, Flint defenseman Nick Tuzzolino, Fort Wayne center Justin Hodgman, Kalamazoo defenseman John Miller and Muskegon left wing Cassidy Preston.
Sterling finished the week with a 2-0-0-1 record. In three games last week, he made 85 saves and allowed only three goals against. He completed the week with a 1.95 goals against average and a .934 save percentage. The netminder has not lost in regulation since February 23 and is a stellar 7-0-2-1 in his last 10 games. He is currently tied for second among IHL goaltenders in save percentage (.911) and wins (23). He was also named IHL Goaltender of the Week in weeks six, 16 and 20.
Other goaltenders nominated for the Southern Sports Supply IHL Goaltender of the Week include: Bloomington's Derek Dolson, Flint's Chad Alban, Fort Wayne's Nick Boucher, Kalamazoo's Jeff Reynaert and Muskegon's Isaac Reichmuth.
Bloomington's Don Parsons was named IHL Forward of the Week for the second week in a row to prevent an Icehawks sweep of the awards.
