
IHL Weekly Honors For Week Twenty-Five

ROCHESTER, MI--- The International Hockey League (IHL) announced Monday that Bloomington right wing Don Parsons has been named the National City IHL Forward of the Week, Port Huron defenseman Chris Bogas has been named the Pepsi IHL Defenseman of the Week, Port Huron left wing Josh Aspenlind has been named the Aquafina IHL Rookie of the Week and Port Huron goaltender Larry Sterling has been named the Southern Sports Supply IHL Goaltender of the Week for the period ending Sunday, April 6th, 2008.
Parsons wins the Forward of the Week honor for the second straight week. He posted a total of seven points last week in four games played. He scored two goals, including the game-winner in Saturday's 9-4 victory in Flint. Parsons scored a total of five points Saturday, recording his second highest point total in a game this season. The Boston, Massachusetts native currently leads Bloomington in scoring with 37goals and 42 assists (79 points), with 15 of his 37 goals coming on the PrairieThunder power play.
Other players nominated for the National City IHL Forward of the Week include: Flint forward Josef Fojtik, Fort Wayne left wing Konstantin Shafranov, Kalamazoo left wing Nick Bootland, Muskegon right wing Robin Bouchard and Port Huron center Kris Vernarsky.
Bogas completed the week scoring one goal and dishing out three assists in four games played by the Icehawks. He scored his fourth goal of the season on just one shot Wednesday versus Bloomington. He had his three game point streak snapped Sunday in the 3-2 shootout loss to Fort Wayne. Bogas registered all four of his points this week during the three game streak. The Cleveland Heights, Ohio native was a team-high plus-seven during his four games played.
Other defenseman nominated for the Pepsi IHL Defenseman of the Week include: Bloomington's Casey Handrahan, Flint's Brock Wilson, Fort Wayne's Jake Pence, Kalamazoo's John Miller and Muskegon's Philippe Plante.
Aspenlind wrapped up Week 25 of his rookie season scoring four points in four games (3g, 1a). He entered the week on a two game point streak which he extended to five games. His streak was also snapped Sunday in the 3-2 shootout loss to the Komets. He registered seven points in the span, scoring four goals and three assists. Aspenlind finished the week with a plus-six rating, the second highest on the team last week. The Langley, British Columbia native is currently ranked fourth among IHL rookies in points with 50 (18g, 32a).
Other players nominated for the Aquafina Rookie of the Week include: Bloomington forward Brett Holmberg, Flint defenseman Nick Tuzzolino, Fort Wayne center Justin Hodgman, Kalamazoo defenseman John Miller and Muskegon left wing Cassidy Preston.
Sterling finished the week posting a 2-0-0-1 record, playing 185 minutes. He only allowed six goals against in the three games played, giving him a 1.95 goals against average and a 0.934 save percentage. He made a total of 85 saves last week, giving him season total of 944. The Lake Orion, Michigan native has not lost in regulation since February 23rd and has gone 7-0-2-1 in his last 10 games. Sterling is tied for second among IHL goaltenders in save percentage (0.911) and is third in goals against average (2.50).
Other goaltenders nominated for the Southern Sports Supply IHL Goaltender of the Week include: Bloomington's Derek Dolson, Flint's Chad Alban, Fort Wayne's Nick Boucher, Kalamazoo's Jeff Reynaert and Muskegon's Isaac Reichmuth.
